Chapter I
The Chemistry of the Cone
Inside every hop cone, hidden at the base of its bracts, sit the lupulin glands — tiny golden vaults of resin the plant builds to defend itself. Brewers prize them for bitterness and preservation. Cosmetic science prizes them for the same molecules doing quieter work.
Extracted into a wash-off formula, this chemistry becomes a scalp and skin regimen: astringent enough to refine oil, gentle enough for daily use, and antioxidant to its core.
- Humulone & lupulone
- The alpha and beta bitter acids. Naturally antimicrobial and astringent — they help keep the scalp environment clear and balanced, the way they keep a fermentation clean.
- Xanthohumol
- A prenylated flavonoid found nowhere in nature but the hop. One of the most intensively studied plant polyphenols — a free-radical scavenger that helps defend lipids and color from oxidative wear.
- Hop phytonutrients
- Flavonoids and phenolic acids that soothe visible irritation and support a comfortable, conditioned skin surface.
Chapter II
What the Brewhouse Feeds
A beer rinse worked because beer is, chemically, a nutrient broth: proteins from malted barley, B vitamins and amino acids from yeast, beta-glucans from the grain. GORA uses each of those fractions deliberately — hydrolyzed so the molecules are small enough to bind where hair needs them.
- Hydrolyzed yeast
- The B-complex, minerals and peptides of the brewer’s cell, cracked open. Amino acids with affinity for keratin reinforce the fiber and add body.
- Barley seed extract
- Malt proteins and trace minerals — including silicon, a classic hair fortifier — that film-form lightly and smooth the cuticle.
- Oat beta-glucan
- A breathable moisture veil for scalp and skin, with avenanthramides — oat’s signature calming molecules — taking the edge off every wash.
Chapter III
Rebuilding the Fiber
Hair is a rope of keratin protein sheathed in overlapping cuticle scales. Color, heat and UV punch holes in both. The repair strategy is molecular-weight matching: protein fragments small enough to enter the cortex, lipids light enough to seal the surface without suffocating it.
- Hydrolyzed keratin
- Identical in kind to the hair’s own protein. Low-molecular-weight fragments diffuse into damaged zones and re-anchor, measurably improving tensile strength and elasticity.
- Hydrolyzed wheat protein
- Glutamine-rich peptides that film-form at the surface — perceived instantly as body and spring in fine hair.
- Argan lipids & panthenol
- Oleic and linoleic acids replenish the cuticle’s lipid mantle while panthenol draws and holds water in the cortex — flexibility instead of brittleness.
Chapter IV
The Discipline of the Base
Most of a wash-off product’s character is decided by its cleansing system. Sulfates clean by force; GORA cleans by design. Every surfactant in the house is amino-acid- or sugar-derived, chosen to respect the barrier it washes.
It is also what we refuse that defines the formula: no silicones to mask damage while it compounds, no parabens, no SLS or SLES — and shine that has to be earned by protein and lipid, not laminated on.
- Sarcosinate & glutamate cleansers
- Built from amino acids. They lift sebum at skin-neutral pH and rinse without residue or rebound oiliness.
- Glucoside sugar surfactants
- From coconut and fruit sugar — among the mildest cleansers known, paired with glyceryl oleate to give lipids back mid-wash.
- Silicone-free conditioning
- Radish-seed conditioning, plant antistatics and silk esters deliver slip and closure that build up nowhere.
